“Poinsettias” is a vibrant composition by Vladimir Tretchikoff, showcasing the artist’s remarkable knack for breathing life into the natural world. Tretchikoff described his style as ‘symbolic realism’. Nowhere was this more prominent than in his flower studies. He first started painting flowers in Java, enchanted by the rainbow-like colours of cannas in the garden. But his fascination with these plants probably started much earlier, in the Far East. This painting delves into the beauty of these festive flowers, capturing their essence with Tretchikoff’s unique blend of realism and vivacious colour. The artwork presents a cluster of poinsettias, their scarlet petals radiating against the deep green of the foliage.

Tretchikoff’s meticulous attention to detail and texture imbues the piece with a sense of dynamism and depth, making the flowers feel palpable and richly alive. “Poinsettias” masterfully encapsulates the raw and striking allure of the poinsettia.
